MatchMyMeds™ is a "pharmacogenomics" or "drug-compatibility" test which looks at how your liver metabolizes medications, by analyzing the genes encoding a set of enzymes whose roles in drug metabolism have been very well established. Briefly (and over-simplifying), if a patient metabolizes a drug too quickly, the drug flushes through the patient’s system and is cleared out before it has a chance to accumulate to therapeutic levels - and thus it is ineffective. Conversely, if a patient metabolizes a drug too slowly, it can build up in their system to toxic levels which can put them at risk of unwanted side effects. The test report includes very easy-to-read recommendations on which drugs are most likely to be effective, which ones to avoid, and which ones require a dosage adjustment so that treatment is tailored to the individual. This is a new tool that enables doctors to minimize trial-and-error and optimize outcomes by personalizing prescriptions based on your DNA.
The test is comprehensive and routinely updated. The MatchMyMeds™ report covers 78 drug compounds found in 100s of different products, including some of the most commonly prescribed drugs, and covers various therapeutic categories, including pain and migraine, anxiety, depression, oncology, immunology, cardiovascular, psychiatry, gastroenterology, dentistry, endocrinology, birth control, rheumatology, infectious diseases, neurology, and urology.
All drug and dosing recommendations summarized in your MatchMyMeds™ report have been clinically validated with published guidelines from internationally recognized consortia and/or based on information from the Health Canada/FDA-approved drug labels. The colour-coded report is easy to read and enables the prescribing physician to quickly choose the drug and dose that’s best for their patient.
Many commonly prescribed drugs are notoriously difficult to get right, and most practitioners expect a lengthy trial-and-error period where the patient tries different medications until they find one that works. This process can take months or even years. MatchMyMeds™ can help physicians avoid the typical one-size-fits-all method of prescribing and determine the right drug and the right dose, tailored to each specific individual.
While various factors play into the effects of medication (e.g. gender, age, weight, organ function, interactions with other drugs), genetic factors account for up to 95% of drug-response variability and susceptibility to Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs).
MatchMyMeds™ is a simple drug-compatibility test. It is NOT a disease-predictive test.
